The Metal Powder Industries Federation is seeking nominations for the MPIF Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy Award. This award recognizes those who devoted the major part of their working careers to one or more segments of PM, and whose long-term contributions and achievements deserve special recognition for outstanding and distinguished service. To receive consideration by the MPIF Awards Committee, candidates must have the following qualifications:

• Have been active in one or more of the segments of the North American powder metallurgy industry
• A total of at least 25 years of PM service, retirees are also eligible.
• Be reasonably well known in the industry; that is, outside his or her own company, institution or region.

The annual Basic Powder Metallurgy (PM) Short Course recently pressed out another batch of students. This year's course, the first ever VIRTUAL offering as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic, offered a unique opportunity for attendees to view each presentation “On-Demand” over a 4-day period from August 10–14.  The program received great feedback from attendees, with 100% stating the content was excellent.

Due to continued concerns regarding the global COVID-19 pandemic, the MIM2021 International Conference on Injection Molding of Metals, Ceramics and Carbides that was to be held February 22-24, 2021 in West Palm Beach, Florida, will now be held virtually.  West Palm Beach will host the MIM2022 conference.  

“It is disappointing that the powder metallurgy industry will miss another opportunity to meet in person due to COVID-19,” reflected James P. Adams, MPIF Executive Director/CEO. “Our industry desires to meet, network, and discuss ongoing R&D to advance the technology.  However, the health and safety of our industry is paramount, so MIM2021 will be held as a virtual conference.” 

Honeywell Aerospace, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, reports that it has produced and installed its first certified, flight-critical engine part built using metal additive manufacturing (AM). Known as the #4/5 bearing housing, the part is a major structural component in the ATF3-6 turbofan engine used on the Dassault Falcon 20G maritime patrol aircraft.
